I decided that I was not going to sit back and wait for someone to decide my fate. So, I picked up the phone can called the HR department for a position at a University in Target City that I had applied for over a month ago. The good news is that my application is in the hands of the hiring committee.
Woohoo!!!!
OK, now I don't want to get overly excited. The last time I did that, I was denied. (Remember the Dream Job). Well, I am going to be cool under the pressure.
But here's a thought?
Do I give a shout to someone in the department? The HR person ( who was very nice) could not tell me who this person was. They are in the initial stage of review, so I don't want to be a pest. But, I am feeling very bold and brazen at the moment. But at the same time, I don't want my confidence, or over confidence get the best of me.
So, should I be bold or just chill for a couple of weeks? Also, I wonder if I need to plan another trip, to show them that I mean business. I mean, we need to get an apartment soon. We have a short list of places, so it would be nice to see if we can get something set before we move.
I am getting anxious. Breathe, girl, breathe!

- Seeking Solace
- I am a college professor who is fumbling through the chaos of academia, rheumatoid arthritis, working on my PhD and just being a 40 something woman. I used to be a lawyer, which made me a snarky little person. I have a wonderful Husband and a German Shepherd named Junior. They help keep me sane.

I would say, don't. If you make the first cut, they'll contact you. Good luck with the search :)
Thanks anonymous. Feel free to come out of the shadows if you like.
Thanks. I'm a lurker by trade. No blog, no twitter, in fact I've never sent nor received a text message in my life! Happy Easter.
OK, well, this is a friendly blog, so if you feel like it, you can delurk.
I agree -- hold out, don't contact them. The tricky thing is that once they're considering applications even the most friendly contact becomes a potential problem.
So -- sit on your hands a while and hope :).
I agree with Anon and ITPF. Like Anon said, when you've made it past the first screen, they will presumably contact you for an interview. After that point, you initiating contact will, I think, be more well-received since they will already be interested in your candidacy, and you'll have a specific person to contact instead of randomly emailing someone. Good luck!
I'm with the consensus here. If the hiring committee is looking at you, it would probably be prudent to wait. I get the brazen feeling, though! It might be one of those times to sit back and wait another lap to take the horns.
Thanks everyone. I guess it goes against my instinct to do whatever it takes to get a job. It worked when I was a lawyer, but it's different in academia.
I'll just chill!
