At least not in Lake Effect Snow Central.
I went to Target this morning and it was packed! Granted it was a Saturday morning, but this was crazy. People were coming out with carts over-flowing with bags of stuff.
Now, you may be saying, "Well, it's because retail has taken a huge hit, so prices have been slashed." Honestly, I did not see any huge price breaks. No big sales or incredible deals.
The reason? My guess is that since the economy in Lake Effect Snow Central has been in the crapper for the past 30 years or so, we are used to feeling the pain. The "economic booms" of the mid '90's and mid '00's did not happen here. Basically, the economy here continued on a downward spiral. There is no new industry in this area; in fact, jobs and companies have been leaving the area for many years now. Population is down too. The only things that is up are taxes and gas prices. We have the highest gas prices in the country right now, despite the decease in the price of oil!
I guess that is the one bright spot of living in Lake Effect Snow Central. I am used to a crummy economy with no growth and high taxes!

- I am a college professor who is fumbling through the chaos of academia, rheumatoid arthritis, working on my PhD and just being a 40 something woman. I used to be a lawyer, which made me a snarky little person. I have a wonderful Husband and a German Shepherd named Junior. They help keep me sane.

My mom is driving back cross country and is about to hit your city!
Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania have high taxes, high regulation, higher than average union membership and shrinking populations. I wonder if there is any correlation?
Shrinky: Very cool. I am glad it's not snowing. Hope she enjoys her visit. She will have to try the local "delicousy".
CB: There probably is. This area has all three...big time!
