- I am a college professor who is fumbling through the chaos of academia, rheumatoid arthritis, working on my PhD and just being a 40 something woman. I used to be a lawyer, which made me a snarky little person. I have a wonderful Husband and a German Shepherd named Junior. They help keep me sane.

Whoo hoo!!!!! Don't spend it all in one place! Unless of course that one place is Ann Taylor! :-P
Wait... I'm clueless about this stuff... Does this mean that lawyers do not get paid until the case has been settled? That bites.
But what doesn't bite is finally getting paid for work you did! NICE! It feels like free money to get it after so much time has passed, but I am sure that you earned it.
Thank Goodness! I say use it for a sunny vacation in Feb or March. Not that you asked.... ;)
B*: For this kind of case, yes. Some cases, like personal injury or worker's comp, the attorney does not get paid until the matter is decided or settled. I had handed the case over to another attorney who finished the settlement negotiations. He will get paid too. But since the client was mine since 2003, I get the bulk of the attorneys fees.
Prisca: Yeah, I am thinking about Cabo in Jan or Feb! Nice way to start the fund! Although a little will go to fund some new threads for the new job!
Yippee! Time to buy yourself a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue! (Well, that's what I'd do, anyway.....)
Arbitrista: Hmm, I have not tried the Blue yet!
nice! it's like found money! well sort of.
Unexpected $$$ is a great! Enjoy!
Awesome! Definitely spend it on something FUN! And don't forget to spoil the Boy a little (more)!!
This never happens to me. You must've done something really nice--that's good karma coming your way!
APL: An honest lawyer...who would believe that!!!!
