Plateaued And Not Happy

Posted by Seeking Solace |

For the past three weeks, my weight has been stuck in the same place, give or take .5 pounds.  I am frustrated. I am racking my brain trying to figure out what is causing this.

Possible Explanation #1: New Job
New job has me working a strange schedule. Three days a week, I work from 1:30 -10:30. The other two days I work 9-6. This schedule is mainly because my campus only has evening classes and I don't have additional help to cover some of the late nights. Also, I have a 40 minute commute everyday which means I don't get home until very late. Scheduling meals has been quite challenging. This is most likely the main reason.

Possible Explanation #2: Illness and weather have prevented me for working out.
I had an minor RA flare and a touch of the flu between the end of January and now. Also, it's been a little chilly and rainy, which kept me from taking my workout outside with Junior.  Also, Possible Explanation #1 doesn't help either.

Possible Explanation #3: Too much caffeine  and Diet Coke.
Because of New Job hours, I am hitting the caffeine a little more than I should.  Before new job, I was down to one can of Diet Coke every other day and limiting my coffee intake to one cup a day.

Possible Explanation #4: Underestimating calories
I've been using Lose It to track my calorie intake since last September.  I've been very good about tracking the information, even Googling calorie information. Some information is difficult to calculate, but I've done quite well getting a good estimate. Also, Husband purchase a food scale for me, so I've been weighing my portions. So, it's unlikely that this is the main reason, but I have to consider the possibility.

Possible Explanation #5: My scale is out of whack
Not likely, but I know more tomorrow when I go for my 4 month check in with my RA doc.

Don't get me wrong; I've made great progress since September. I've lost 23 pounds and I am down two sizes.  The loss had been steady and consistent each week. But, I am very frustrated with this slow progress.

Mine's always underestimating calories and fat. Even though I'm low-carbing for Diabetes (no more than 60 carbs per day), I sometimes tend to forget that calories and fat count too. Once I start writing down everything I eat and drink and note carbs, calories, and fat, I can streamline my eating and then the weight starts dropping again. Good luck -- it's tough trying to lose while dealing with stress and chronic illness/pain.
