With all the heinousness in trying to sell my house, I am also engaged in the heinousness of looking for another academic position.
Which lead to the following rant...
Is it so hard to click "Send" when someone asks for a read receipt? Seriously people, all I want to know is if you got the stuff I sent! Or, is it so hard to type a couple of lines saying "Yes we received your information and we are in the process of reviewing it."? Even Husband would send information via email and not receive any response.
I checked on a job that I applied for back in January for another position at Dream Law School. I noticed that the position was still listed as open on the website. So, I sent an email to the Law School. Here they had hired someone a couple of months ago!
What the deuce???
It's it so hard to update the job postings? Is that the job of someone in HR? I mean it's just a matter of just pressing "delete"! How friggin' hard is that?
I wonder with everyone relying on technology to do almost anything, if we have forgotten common courtesy. Back in the day of paper inquires, you either got the dreaded "FU letter" letting you know you did not get the job. Now it seems that people cannot be bothered. You would think they would even have a canned email response to deal with the number of people inquiring.
Come on, people! All I am asking for is a little common courtesy and respect. Or, is that going down the drain faster than the economy?
I am frustrated, pissed and a little depressed. It makes me want to give up the search for now, at least until July. This is worse than being rejected. Being ignored sucks.
Don't worry, I won't be going Fatal Attraction on anyone. No boiling of bunnies or turning light switches on and off.

About Me
- Seeking Solace
- I am a college professor who is fumbling through the chaos of academia, rheumatoid arthritis, working on my PhD and just being a 40 something woman. I used to be a lawyer, which made me a snarky little person. I have a wonderful Husband and a German Shepherd named Junior. They help keep me sane.

I know exactly what you mean. When I got a paper rejection letter I wanted to send the woman flowers with a thank-you note, just because she actually took the time (and really signed it). Local colleges also have positions up that are filled. Go figure. Laziness wins.
Yeah! Give us something....ANYTHING!!!!!
That drove me crazy when I was applying too. And it was even worse when you applied through HR without any contact person. Ugh.
I hope you hear something soon.
