I thought I would give all of you an update on my status while on the road.
Friday, I had an interview with a company that does document review and research for law firms and companies. It's a contract position and I would only work about 37 hours a week. It's not steady work, in that I will work when there is a job to do. A job could last from a week to a few months. I am totally OK with doing this kind of work until I find something more stable and in academia.
The interview went very well. The woman in charge of handling out the assignments and I hit it off instantly. She was impressed with my legal background and my academic background. She told me that many solo practicing lawyers work with her company as a means to supplement income. She said she would let me know early next week.
I really like the First City that Husband and I visited. We have friends who live in the area and had a chance to visit with them. Although we hadn't seen each other in 12 years, we still kept in touch. They gave us a tour of the area yesterday, showing us places that would be good to live with a reasonable commute and access to public transport. The downside to First City is that it does not have as many opportunities in Husband's field with his skill set. I think he may have to adjust his resume to show that some of his skills are applicable to different areas within his field.
Today, Husband and I traveled to Second City. First, let me just say that we left Lake Effect Snow Central to get away from the snow. So would someone please explain to me why it is going to snow in Target State? We will be in Second City for four days. The plan is to drive around and check out apartments. Husband is also contacting people to see if he can get an interview. Second City has more opportunities in his current field.
Oh, and if you have not been following on Twitter or Facebook, then you didn't hear that I currently have laryngitis. I was battling a cold all last week. On Friday night, my voice started cracking and my throat was sore. By Saturday, I could hardly speak. Today, I cannot speak above a whisper. At least I had enough voice for the interview!
OK, so that's the update. I will keep you posted.

- Seeking Solace
- I am a college professor who is fumbling through the chaos of academia, rheumatoid arthritis, working on my PhD and just being a 40 something woman. I used to be a lawyer, which made me a snarky little person. I have a wonderful Husband and a German Shepherd named Junior. They help keep me sane.

Thanks for the update!
I hope you get your voice back.
Sorry about the snow and the voice issues.
I wish you the best of luck for finding what you're looking for (jobs, homes etc).
bummer about the snow. i'm sure that bites!
glad your interview went well. enjoy your time!
So glad your interview went well! I wish it was warmer for you in Target State.
And my cold from last week when I talked with you? It turned into pneumonia!
And of course, you looked smashing! Sorry about the voice. I'm interested in hearing more about the contract legal stuff. Wish I'd had that opportunity long ago. I think my skills are too rusty but I'd love a research job like that. Sounds cool.
Congrats on the great interview! Hope your voice comes back soon
I'm glad that things are going well (other than your voice!) And I don't think it usually snows there, so I wouldn't worry! Good luck!
