Say you applied for a position that you saw in the Chronicle of Higher Education about a month ago. You haven't heard anything until today when you saw that the Chronicle re-posted the same ad.
Would you contact the employer again to:
A) Make sure that you are still in the running for the position?
B) Resubmit your information, just in case it got lost on the information superhighway?
C) Both?
D) Nothing, figuring it might be overkill.
I know I should do C) but I am getting paranoid. Any thoughts?

About Me
- Seeking Solace
- I am a college professor who is fumbling through the chaos of academia, rheumatoid arthritis, working on my PhD and just being a 40 something woman. I used to be a lawyer, which made me a snarky little person. I have a wonderful Husband and a German Shepherd named Junior. They help keep me sane.

If there is a contact person, I'd send a quick and low-key e-mail asking if your materials have been recieved.
There are many reasons it could have been re-posted and/or you haven't had an answer from them. It is quite possible that they planned to run the ad more than once to insure a good pool of applicants. It is also possible that they've eliminated you from consideration but their HR won't let them notify non-qualifiers until they've hired someone.
Reposts usually mean they didn't get the applicants with the skills they were hoping so I usually just take it to mean that they got my stuff but didn't think I was a good fit. Can't hurt to submit again I suppose, but I would think it's overkill.
I'd go for contacting them to make sure they got your materials. Dr R applied for (and got) a new job recently. He phoned up HR about 24 hours before the deadline and they couldn't find his application so he resent it. Just as well he followed up!
They may just be trying to widen the pool of applicants.
I'd contact them and ask (either if your materials had been received, or just straight-out, "I saw your ad reposted and am very interested in the position and just wanted to check to see whether you had my materials or if I should resubmit," something like that). Pace kai, there are a lot of reasons why a school might resubmit an ad that don't mean it's because they haven't found a good candidate - they may have messed up something administratively and had to change the deadline/reword the ad, something like that. I've had a couple of schools that didn't end up filling a position the first time round send me a "rejection" explaining that but telling me I was encouraged to apply again when they reopened it. (Not because they loved me, per se, just because that's what they were telling all the applicants - so it wasn't because the pool wasn't good.)
A. then B.
I would send an email, like ITPF said. Maybe they just didn't get enough applicants to make a viable pool and they need more. I think checking in is a good idea, though. Good luck!
I definitely contact them to inquire.
It won't hurt to check if they received your materials. What do you have to lose, right? Cheer up, it will all work out! :)
I'm with New Kid.
Contact them and mention that you saw the ad reposted. Ask if they have your materials from earlier and if they carry over to the new posting or if you need to resubmit.
That probably wouldn't sound too pushy.
Contact them. All kinds of odd things could have happened, as the other commenters have said (small pool, committee at each others' throats, etc.), and contacting them will let them know of your interest.
I hate that and the uncertainty it brings. Good luck. You know what to do.
