Bond. James Bond

Posted by Seeking Solace |

Husband and I went to see Quantum of Solace as part of our day off.

I am a huge James Bond fan. In fact, Husband calls me 006 1/2. My absolute favorites are the films with Sean Connery as Bond, particularly Goldfinger and From Russia With Love. I also liked George Lazenby, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I liked most of the ones with Roger Moore; none with Timothy Dalton. Pierce Brosnan was OK; I did have hard time getting into those films.

I was not sure of what to think of Daniel Craig when I first saw Casino Royale. He was a darker, more intense Bond. I wasn't sure if I was going to like him as my hero.

Well, all fears were put to rest. The new Bond film is great and Craig is totally bad-ass. The only complaint I have is that I miss all the gadgets from Q Branch. I guess since the death of the actor who played Q, it would be too hard to replace perfection. Although the touch screen table in Quantum of Solace was so cool!

I must say, he's not your mama's James Bond!

I put off seeing it because of some of the bad reviews. Not enough gadgets, this is not Jason Bourne (which for me is good because I love Bourne), etc. Even Roger Moore got in on the hate Daniel Craig crowd.

My favorite is still Sean Connery, I didn't like Roger Moore as much and never sat through Dalton or Brosnan (except to see the scene where Holly emerges from the water). I do like Craig in the role and I'm looking forward to seeing it again, now.

I thought that they did a good job of trying to introduce John Cleese as Q jr.

I had a hard time with the Brosnan ones because the women were so dumb...come one: Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist?

I have only seen maybe 10 minutes of the last Daniel Craig one, but I am looking forward to this one. He seems more like a 'man's bond' as opposed to catering to pop culture.

CB: Dalton was a bit of a dolt. I never bought Bronsen as Bond. I did hear Moore's comments. sour grapes maybe?

Yeah, not enough gadgets. One of my faves is the exploding pen from Never Say Never. I could have used that during my attorney days!

My husband likes the Roger Moore films for the ski scenes.

I would go see it. It is not a Jason Bourne pic (Who I also love too!)

Sciencegeeka: I completely forgot about Cleets as Q Jr. Why didn't they bring him back???

Re your question on the port...

Putting it in required a hospital trip, but a very short one and no general anesthetic. The incision was very shallow and maybe an inch long at most. The 'recovery' was minimal -- although, I'm comparing it to the mastectomy scar on the other side... so maybe my perception was off a bit :) -- but, it really wasn't a hassle.

After a week or two it settles in and now I don't feel it inside me at all. From the outside I can feel a hard triangular lump I can cover with the pad of my thumb. It is in the space between my collar bone and the top of my breast on the right side, so when they access it I just pull the collar of my shirt open. It is completely covered by my skin, and you'd have to look really close to even see it.

Accessing it hurts a lot less than an IV, especially if your IVs are regular and your veins are so-so. I hardly feel it when they access it -- just a bit of a pinch when the needle goes in. After the needle is in, they do the blood work and infusions via the same tube -- when I'm done at the clinic the last thing they do is pull it out and put a little band-aid on it -- which I rarely need.

I like it because I've been bruised so many times by people doing IVs -- and I only have one arm to use for veins, as they can't do anything like that on my mastectomy side.

Now that I'm done, as long as I have it I have to go in to have it flushed once per month. The flush is minimal.... I'll probably keep it for at least the first 6 months to a year, at least until I've had a couple of good PET scans, so I know I won't need another round of chemo.

I'd at least ask your doctor about it if you need regular infusions. She may say that they don't do ports for your condition, or that the clinic you'll be going to isn't used to accessing ports. They use a different kind of needle and sometimes can be a little tricky if they don't want to cooperate...the chemo nurses are really good with them, but if your clinic doesn't use them on a regular basis a port may be a bigger hassle than it is worth...

You forgot to mention that this Bond was hot hot hot (even for being kind of older)
