Don't take it personally -- really.
If you won't be there in January, they need to find your replacement soon. Since many of the folks who are qualified to take your classes are on year-long contracts, they'll need to cast a pretty wide net to cover the courses.
Believe me, I've been on the search committee for one-semester gigs... to call it 'not pretty' would be an understatement.
Geez!
wait, you're leaving in january. ok, good to know. and yah, that bites.
