House Beautiful

Posted by Seeking Solace |

My house was built in 1950. That means Husband and I spend a significant amount of time and money doing home improvements. We joke that we are doing the 20 year flip.

Husband and I will also be busy with some projects that we can tackle ourselves. We like to think we are pretty good with most home improvement projects. We will be ripping out the carpet in our living and dinning rooms and the upstairs hall. When we bought the house, the carpet was new. But 15 years and two dogs later, it is in sad shape. We have no idea what condition the floor is. But, if the hardwood is in as good of condition as the rest of the house, we will be in good shape.

The contractor who did our bathroom and kitchen is replacing our garage door and installing a glass block window in the garage. He is also going to repair the ceiling damage in the living room and install recessed lighting so that our living room is no longer a cave. Plus, we are getting a new picture window in the living room and a new window in the master bedroom so that we will not feel the cold air in the winter.

There goes our rebate check.

Sounds like great improvements and a good use of the rebate check!

Excellent use of the rebate check....I used mine to pay off debt. :-(

Good luck! I was prepared for the worst when I pulled carpet up off of my floors too (my house is from the 20s), but was pleasantly surprised to find really lovely wood floors there.

Ah, so that's what you're doing with yours. We did the overhaul on our last house; I can totally sympathize w/the carpet. You should try to not even be there when they rip it up.
